CASPA was founded in 1991 by several Bay Area engineers. That same year, I received Bachelor degree in Taiwan, and began my venture into the Semiconductor Industry. Shortly thereafter, I came to Stanford University for Master’s degree, and then returned back to Taiwan, working for TI and TSMC. In 2002, I returned to US again to help a start-up. It is always amazing to me how fast time flies. Now, CASPA is celebrating her 20th Birthday, and to my great honor, I have just been named the 21st CASPA President.

Four years ago, I attended CASPA Board of Director election the first time. I still remember the four small wishes that I made. I said, we shall learn from each other; we shall share our laughter and tears together; we will do our best to contribute; and we will bring more positive energy and happiness to the organization.

During the past four years, I truly enjoyed working with the talented CASPA team. I have also been impressed by how the team members have volunteered their time, and have made such a significant impact on semiconductor industry in the US, Taiwan, Hong Kong and China. These achievements are no doubt the result of unselfish devotion, vision, passion, discipline, and as always, a warm heart.

Going forward, I know that we at CASPA will continue our mission to develop CASPA into a global platform for technology, talented professionals, and business opportunities to better serve our Corporate Sponsors, Individual members and our Community across the pacific.

I would also like to stress how much we appreciate the strong support from our Corporate Sponsors. We will continue to work hard to provide better value proposition. By expanding our Sponsor base through inviting more companies in this ecosystem to join CASPA platform, I believe we can become even more effective.

Collaboration with alliance partners has proven to be a very rewarding experience, with a fruitful result. We thank our partners for your friendship, support, and we look forward to more cooperation in coming year.

While we have seen more and more new applications derived from Semiconductor technologies, we will work to see CASPA expand into "Pan Semiconductor" area, such as LED, LCD and Solar Panels, to serve our members in that space.

As I have grown in my career, I realized how important a good balance in life is. Knowing about other fields besides engineering, such as history, art, finance and philosophy can help you be more effective in our industry, which really is more than technology. Just look at Apple as an example. This summer, we held a special symposium "Technologies and Humanities" together with our alliance partner CIE. The response was extremely positive. Next year, we will try to promote more humanities content to our members - how to enrich your life, with balance and happiness.

I welcome all of you to join CASPA as volunteers, to develop your leadership, expand your networking and make good friends. By helping others, you are surely the one who will benefit most.

2012 will start a new chapter for CASPA for the next 20 years. I am sure that will be another year full of learning, sharing, laughter, tears, and as always, our heart.
